Somerville Scan Worcester Medical Museum

Worcester Medical Museum

The Medical Museum in Worcester has a collection of Death Masks taken from prisoners executed in the 19th Century.

As part of an education project funded by the MLA West Midlands (the regional department of the government's Museums, Libraries Archives body that funds many such bodies across England), SomervilleSCAN were contracted to make replicas of some of the busts.

Given their age and the plaster of paris material, handling was a major problem. The non-contact laser scanner used by our company ensured that we could capture 4 complete busts in only a few hours. These digital models were then cleaned up using software and finally printed out in 3/4 scale on the Z450 3D printer.
